Politics and Parliaments
June 7th 2010 01:21
Opinion polls – political advertising by both sides-Govt & private enterprise- failed Govt programs – ministerial blunders and resignations – corruption allegations – charges and counter charges. What is going on in the great halls of power in both our state, NSW, and the federal capital.
The small potatoes of our State are in a right royal mess. Our State Govt has more changes than a baby with diarrhoea. Corruption charges, misleading Parliament, wroughting the system, and a myriad of unacceptable misdemeanours have changed the face of our Govt. What’s more, the next election is less than a year away.
I shall never understand the machinations of Govts. Some of the actions of Politicians would be jailable offences if carried out without the protection of Parliament, yet these criminally minded emloyees of the people are permitted to escape scott free. Not nice, not right, not fair and not justice. Our justice system states that justice will not only be done, but will be SEEN to be done. I used to think this applied to everyone and the ‘seen’ bit meant that Govts were open and honest. How wrong I was to think, even for a minute, that Govts were open and honest. I do apologise for being so naive.
Even the once popular Federal Govt has had a run of disasters to lessen its chances of re-election. The failed ‘Home Insulation Scheme’. It seems the more enterprising in our state made a quick buck and shot through before the fan distributed that sloppy brown stuff all over the Minister in charge of the operation. Then the Schools buildings thingo that Julia calls the Education Revolution is also in dire straights because of shonky administration of a scheme which could have been a great boon to many schools.
I am an old man now and won’t see a great many more summers and I would like to die still believing that we in Australia have some semblance of Democracy. I know from history that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and sadly I am led to believe that politics is absolutely corrupt.
Come on, all you elected representatives, I dare you, prove me wrong!
