More to MDBA
November 15th 2010 04:45
With a lot of meetings over and done with the MDBA has apparently accepted the fact that the Social and Economic effects of reducing the amount of irrigation water that is available to irrigation farmers has to be considered. But are they going to do the correct thing for the basin altogether, or will there be selected groups who get a ‘Special’ deal?
So far I have not heard of any work being done in the area of research for alternative crops which could be grown in the event that there is no water. Why not ? Our Wide Brown Land is prone to drought and in such an event there is no water for irrigation or the environment. What happens then to all those communities who depend on income from irrigation farmers to keep their community alive and well?
I can only ask that someone look into the idea of alternate use of the land in a ‘no water available situation’.
