Education - Power - Politics

We are frequently told that our education system has been developed by experts to give us the best possible knowledge that is available. Sadly for us, that is not true. Our system teaches just enough to get the ‘students’ a pass at exam time. Whether what they have learned is of any use to them is of no concern to the educators, teachers and the current Govt. Standards have been lowered to achieve a higher pass rate at exam time. Mediocrity- en -masse seems to be the objective of the curriculum designers.
It seems that the aim of Public Education is to breed and train a standardised citizen, to put down dissent and originality, to create a manageable population which can be readily manipulated to believe whatever the power brokers in Government circles tell them to believe. In short the power brokers think of themselves as the only ones with brains and the general population are merely sheep, to be pushed thither and yon as deemed necessary.
To avoid as much conflict as possible in their pursuit of money and power, those who can, enter the political scene. Not necessarily in person, more likely by corrupting those who are in politics, whether they are merely burocrats or actually politicians. Political employees outnumber the elected politicians and are advisors to them. Here lies an avenue to exploit the existing system for their advantage.
And so, in a very short space we have come full circle.
Education is the key, open, inquiring minds should be stimulated by our school system, not squashed. Secrecy in Governing circles promotes corruption as the opportunities for getting caught are more limited. The same thing applies to the Education System, It should be open and honest. If a student takes on the challenge of any particular subject and fails to learn enough to understand it, he/she should fail that subject. Failure is not earth shattering, it simply means that area of endeavour is not for that person. Some other subject could be more advantageous to their way of thinking and their inherent skills.
I am aware of the complexity of all this but when separated into component parts, it should not be difficult for any serious minded Govt to achieve.
